JiiBE started with a lease no one could quite explain, and a deposit we weren't sure was safe.
A confusing contract, and no way to check it.
JiiBE's creator first came to Korea as an exchange student in the early 2010s, and signed her first Korean lease the way most renters do: reading a contract full of unfamiliar terms, trusting an agent, and hoping the deposit would come back. Five rental contracts later, she still ran into the same confusion and the same quiet worry about the deposit every time.
So she built the tool she wished she'd had: a place to read what other tenants actually experienced, and to run a contract past a second pair of eyes before signing anything. JiiBE is built for every renter in Korea, foreign or Korean, since the same questions about deposits and contracts affect everyone.
Renting in Korea shouldn't require a lawyer, a translator, and a leap of faith.
We want every renter in Korea, foreign or Korean, newly arrived or renewing a tenth lease, to understand exactly what they're signing and where their deposit stands, in a language they're comfortable in.
